Russia used the territory of Belarus for its armed aggression against Ukraine. That is why only Russia is a threat to Belarus, Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated.

Background

This morning, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ambrazevich said that Minsk claims a “seat at the table of peace negotiations” and that Belarus wants “security guarantees.”

“From the very beginning, we have stated that we claim a seat at the table of peace negotiations on Ukraine when they start. It is important for us to receive guarantees of our own security,” Ambrazevich said.

Reaction of the MFA of Ukraine

Ukraine’s MFA highlighted that Belarus became an accomplice to Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, violating its own constitution.

The Ministry was surprised by the statement of a Belarusian official, noting that Russia used the territory of its ally for armed aggression against Ukraine. Moscow is the main source of real security threats to Minsk.

"The only right that Belarusian officials may claim is to face a fair consideration in the framework of a process of holding the aggressor and its accomplices accountable under international law for the crime of aggression against Ukraine," the Ministry stated.

Ukraine's negotiations with Russia

Recently, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that peace talks to end the war between Ukraine and Russia could begin this winter.

However, a poll shows that most Ukrainians do not accept concessions to the Russians.

Earlier the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, made a cynical statement about Ukraine. He said that his country would help rebuild Ukraine after the war is over. Lukashenko believes that the United States will not be involved.
