Lukashenko makes another cynical statement about Ukraine
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus says that his country would help rebuild Ukraine after the war ended. He believes that the US will not be involved, citing Belta.
According to Lukashenko, the US will be preoccupied with internal issues, and there will be no one to rebuild Ukraine. Therefore, Belarus is willing to take on that role.
"That's why the leadership of Ukraine needs to get their act together and understand that their priority will be rebuilding the country. With the help of people close to them, primarily Belarusians," Lukashenko said.
Lukashenko also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not traveling to Minsk or Moscow to "finally put an end to this war."
Ukraine's response
Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, commented on Lukashenko's statement in his Telegram channel.
In his view, such statements suggest that Lukashenko believes in a "friendship" between Ukraine and Belarus after the war.
"Nothing surprising. The Russians, and Lukashenko, believe in the Georgian model of post-war 'friendship and reconciliation.' They can’t think any other way. But, as the saying goes, a fool is happy in his delusions," he wrote.
Rebuilding Ukraine
The cost of rebuilding Ukraine has already reached nearly $486 billion, with $15 billion needed for urgent restoration.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that these needs continue to grow, especially in the housing sector, where 10% of the housing stock has been damaged by the war. Ukraine hopes to seize frozen Russian assets and is engaging international partners and private investments for reconstruction.
