Ukrainian intelligence comments on suspect in Trump assassination plot
There has been information circulating online that Ryan Routh, the suspect in the assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump, is connected to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. However, this information is false, according to the Ukrainian intelligence.
Intelligence officials stated that US citizen Ryan Routh never served in the International Legion of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine and has no connection to the unit.
"The rumors circulating in some media about this are false," the Ukrainian intelligence added.
Shooting near Trump
Yesterday evening in the US, there was an assassination attempt on Trump. Agents of the Secret Service fired upon an armed man near a golf club where the presidential candidate was present.
After the arrest, it was discovered that the individual was US citizen Ryan Wesley Routh. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation described the incident as "what appears to be an attempted assassination."
Additionally, today, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, emphasized that Russian propaganda would use the shooting incident against Ukraine and attempt to promote conspiracy theories about a "Ukrainian connection."
At the same time, media reports revealed that Routh had expressed support for Ukraine on social media. Furthermore, he had a website where he attempted to raise funds and recruit volunteers for the war against Russia.
