Shooting near Trump: FBI investigates apparent assassination attempt
Former US President Donald Trump is safe following a shooting incident at his golf course in Florida. The Federal Bureau of Investigation describes the incident as akin to an attempted murder of former President Trump, reports the Associated Press.
US Secret Service agents fired shots after spotting an individual with a firearm near the golf course. A firearm, specifically an AK-type weapon, was later found near the scene, according to AP.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported that they have detained a vehicle driver who is being sought by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the shooting.
The Secret Service is investigating a protective incident involving Trump, said agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.
On Sunday evening, Trump's campaign office confirmed that the former president was safe following the gunfire near him. Media sources reported that the shooting occurred near the golf club and was unrelated to Trump.
