Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sharply responds to Fico's statements about enemies
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has responded to the latest controversial statements by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The ministry views them as an attempt to shift responsibility for the politician's domestic policy failures onto Ukraine, according to the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In its statement, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that, amid declining trust among Slovak society and protests against his pro-Russian policies, Robert Fico resorted to looking for the enemies and found them... in Ukraine.
"We consider these absurd statements as an attempt to shift responsibility for his own failures in domestic policy to foreign states and leaders. We would advise better to look not outside, but in the mirror," the statement reads.
The ministry emphasized that Ukraine has repeatedly warned about the dangers of Slovakia's pro-Russian course.
"The result is obvious: Robert Fico and some parliamentary leaders of Slovakia were poisoned by Russian propaganda, ceased to distinguish between black and white, and have already begun to call the leaders of neighboring friendly democracies as "enemies."" the ministry said.
The MFA also asserted that Fico's stance and policies contradict the Slovak people's choice to remain an integral part of the European community.
Pro-Russian statements by Fico
On Tuesday, January 28, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy an enemy over the cessation of Russian gas transit to European countries.
In response, Zelenskyy stated that Fico has chosen Moscow over America and does not seek to preserve the independence and sovereignty of his country.
It is possible that Fico's harsh statement is linked to the mass protests that have recently erupted in Slovakia.
Previously, Fico accused Ukraine of allegedly being involved in organizing these protests.
