Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. He called on Beijing to discuss a peace formula.

The Ukrainian minister invited his Chinese counterpart to Kyiv at "any convenient date and time."

"It will give an opportunity to discuss more deeply the ways how we could achieve long-lasting and just peace for Ukraine. We need your support," Sybiha said.

The Foreign Minister also reminded Wang Yi about the Ukrainian peace formula and called for its discussion.

"We are pleased to note the positive trend in political dialogue between our states in 2024... You know that President Zelenskyy has elaborated a peace formula. And maybe it's time to discuss our further cooperation," the Ukrainian minister said.

China's position on the war

China claims to be neutral on the war in Ukraine. However, Beijing continues to cooperate with Russia in the economic sphere and trade. Chinese companies also continue to supply Moscow with dual-use goods.

China is in favor of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Beijing has proposed its so-called "peace plan," but Ukraine's representatives have criticized it.

After his inauguration, US President Donald Trump said he hoped for China's help to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Beijing responded that it will continue to facilitate negotiations and is ready to keep in touch with other parties.
