As a result of a massive combined Russian attack on the night of October 22, several energy facilities were damaged. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on partners for urgent additional assistance, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported.
"Instead of diplomacy and peace negotiations, Russia continues its brutal strikes against Ukraine. Energy infrastructure and ordinary homes all across our country have been under attack overnight," the minister said.
According to him, at least six people were killed in the attacks, including a young mother with two small children. Several energy facilities were damaged, leaving communities without electricity, heating, and water.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine needs additional international assistance to support the energy system ahead of winter.
"I reiterate my appeal to all partners, entities, and international organizations to mobilize additional energy support for Ukraine ahead of winter and prevent a humanitarian crisis in the middle of Europe. We need additional energy resources and funds, mobile power generation units, repair equipment, and additional air defense capabilities. This is urgent, and we will appreciate every new announcement," he stressed.
The minister also recalled the words of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating that this attack proves Russia still does not feel enough pressure to stop the war.
"It is time to abandon wishful thinking and demonstrate strength. New strong sanctions. New decisions regarding frozen assets. New strengthening for Ukraine's air defense and long-range capabilities," Sybiha concluded.
