Ukrainian defense forces attacked facilities of the Saratov oil refinery in Saratov region, Russia, on the night of March 21, according to the Telegram of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The facility is engaged in crude oil processing and the production of fuel and lubricants used by the occupying army.

The Saratov refinery is one of the oldest oil-processing enterprises in Russia. As of 2023, its processing capacity was 4.8 million tons.

According to preliminary information, the secondary oil processing unit and the vertical tank RVS-10000 were damaged.

The full extent of the damage is being assessed.

Strikes on Russian refineries

Last week, Ukrainian defense forces struck the Afipsky oil refinery and the infrastructure of the port of Kavkaz in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

On the night of March 8, drones attacked an oil pumping station in Krasnodar region, causing a large fire.

On the night of March 2, the Security Service of Ukraine, together with other branches of the defense forces, hit Russian military ships, air defense systems, and oil infrastructure at the port of Novorossiysk.

The damaged terminal at the Russian port is one of the largest oil and petroleum product handling complexes in southern Russia. It supplies fuel to Russian units fighting in Ukraine.

The night of February 28 was also "hot" for Russia's oil sector in Krasnodar region. A fire broke out at the mini-refinery Albashneft in the village of Novominsk after debris from a drone fell on the facility.

On the night of February 19, drones from the SBU Alpha Special Operations Center successfully struck the Velikolukskaya oil depot in Pskov region, almost 500 km from Ukraine’s state border.
