The night of February 28 was described as a difficult one for Russia’s oil sector in the Krasnodar region, according to the Krasnodar region’s operational headquarters.

A fire broke out at the Albashneft mini-refinery in the village of Novominskaya in Russia’s Krasnodar region after drone debris fell at the site.

Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties.

Emergency and specialized services are working at the scene. A total of 39 personnel and 13 pieces of equipment, including Russia’s emergency ministry teams in the Krasnodar region, were deployed to contain the blaze.

Updated information indicates the fire engulfed one of the plant’s storage tanks and nearby territory, covering about 150 square meters.

Attacks on Russian refineries

This is not the first time energy infrastructure in Russia has been affected by drone strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously described attacks on major oil facilities as the "fastest sanctions" against Russia.

Earlier, on September 13, Russian media reported that attack drones targeted the Novo-Ufimsky oil refinery in Bashkortostan overnight, despite the facility being located roughly 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
