In recent days, Russian forces managed to advance in the Huliaipole area in the Zaporizhzhia region, forcing Ukrainian units to pull back. However, Ukrainian forces have now stopped the offensive and regained control of the situation, the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine report.
As reported by the Southern Defense Forces, the 33rd Separate Assault Regiment of the Ground Forces and other adjacent assault and mechanized units held back the Russian assault near Huliaipole.
"The front has been stabilized," the command said in its statement.
Fighting in the Huliaipole area
On November 26, the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, reported a "very dangerous" situation in the Huliaipole area.
According to him, the enemy had intensified activity within a ten-kilometer zone around Huliaipole and was attempting to advance toward the settlement of Zatyshshia, which is located closer to the frontline.
On November 27, Voloshyn explained in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that the escalation in the Huliaipole direction occurred after Ukrainian forces regrouped.
During this operation, one unit conducted an uncoordinated withdrawal, exposing the defense's flank. Russian forces took advantage of this and moved to the Defense Forces' flank.
Clashes took place between the sides. According to Voloshyn, several Ukrainian soldiers are currently considered missing as a result of this situation.
In this morning's report, the General Staff stated that in the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 20 enemy attacks near the settlements of Zatyshshia, Solodke, Chervone, and toward the settlements of Dobropillia, Pryluky, Varvarivka, and Huliaipole.
