Ukraine has officially adopted the fiber-optic quadcopter Ptashka. It boasts a record flight range and can strike enemy targets at unprecedented distances, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Ptashka is produced domestically and is already in active use by the Ukrainian forces. It features a fiber-optic control channel and can carry out strikes up to 50 kilometers away—a record for UAVs of this type in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"The new-generation strike drone Ptashka is designed for intensive combat conditions. It has a reinforced composite frame, high-performance electric motors, thrust propellers, and a split battery system for stable operation," the Ministry stated.

The drone’s design is specifically balanced for maneuvering during flight. The drone can perform tasks both during the day and at night in any weather conditions.

"The drone’s payload is sufficient to engage enemy infantry, fire positions, bunkers, vehicles, and lightly armored equipment," the statement added.

Earlier in 2026, it was reported that a Czech company, in cooperation with volunteers, supplies Ukraine with FPV fiber-optic drones built using technology from captured Russian UAVs.

Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will begin exporting drones to Europe. Several offices will be opened, and the security of the European Union will rely on Ukrainian drones and technologies.
