Ukrainian Forces must prevent Russian army from reaching Pokrovsk
Ukrainian Armed Forces must not allow the Russian forces to approach Pokrovsk. If the Russian army reaches the town, a situation similar to Avdiivka could occur, stated a serviceman of the 109th Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Sergeant Yehor Firsov.
"We must do everything possible to defeat the enemy on the approaches to Pokrovsk. If we fail to do this, it will be extremely difficult for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Holding the defense in the town is much more advantageous," Firsov explained.
He noted that he is currently in the town and understands that the town could be bombarded by artillery for years.
"The positions are advantageous for our guys who fly, there are always basements, while the enemy is in a disadvantageous position in the treelines like in a shooting gallery. That is, we can shoot the enemy from the town. It’s much better for us," the serviceman said.
He explained that as soon as the Ukrainian Armed Forces give up the town, the Ukrainian soldiers will find themselves in a shooting gallery.
"Because we would retreat to the treelines and fields, while the enemy brings all equipment into the town and operates drones from there. So, under no circumstances should we give up Pokrovsk," he emphasized.
Firsov stressed that if the Russian forces reachPokrovsk, it could lead to a situation similar to what happened in Avdiivka.
"People used to ask why we were holding Avdiivka. This is why. We held Avdiivka for several years, and it was advantageous, but as soon as Avdiivka fell, we had to defend Pokrovsk. And Pokrovsk was deep in the rear, 60 kilometers from the front line. This is what happened when we retreated from Avdiivka, from the heights and factories," he concluded.
Fighting near Pokrovsk
The situation near Pokrovsk has remained tense for an extended period. Ukrainian forces are repelling daily attacks by the Russian army and holding the line. Even the Kursk operation, which aimed, among other things, to divert Russian forces from Pokrovsk, did not reduce the pressure on the town.
Today, August 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held another meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. One of the topics of discussion was defense in the Pokrovsk direction.
We also reported that on August 19, the head of the Pokrovsk City Military Administration, Serhiy Dobriak, urged residents to evacuate. He mentioned that the residents had one to two weeks to leave the town.
