Ukrainian forces hit Russia's Saratov oil refinery overnight again

Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery overnight on October 16, which is involved in supplying Russia's Armed Forces, according to the General Staff and Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"On the night of October 16, 2025, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery in Russia's Saratov region," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
It is noted that the Saratov oil refinery is one of the oldest oil processing enterprises in Russia. As of 2023, oil refining volume totaled 4.8 million tons. The enterprise is involved in meeting the needs of Russia's Armed Forces.
"Ukraine's Defense Forces are consistently implementing a set of measures to strike critical elements of the military-industrial base of Russia to deprive it of the ability to continue aggression," the General Staff added.
Special Operations Forces struck the refinery
"On the night of October 16, units of the Special Operations Forces struck the Saratov oil refinery in Russia's Saratov region," the Special Operations Forces reported.
It is known that the refinery is part of Rosneft's corporate structure (Russian state-owned oil company). The oil refining volume amounted to 7.2 million tons in 2020 and 4.8 million tons in 2023. The Special Operations Forces struck this facility exactly one month earlier, on September 16, 2025.
"The Special Operations Forces continue to carry out asymmetric actions aimed at stopping the enemy," the statement added.
Strikes on the Saratov oil refinery
The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Saratov oil refinery on August 10. After a UAV strike on the facility's territory, explosions occurred and a fire broke out. Following the drone attack, the Rosneft-owned refinery temporarily suspended oil intake.
In addition, on the night of September 16, the Saratov oil refinery suffered another drone attack. Explosions and a fire were reported in the facility's area.
According to the General Staff, the Saratov refinery specializes in producing gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, various grades of bitumen, technical sulfur, and other petroleum products — a total of more than 20 types.
