Intense fighting continues in the border area of the Sumy region. Russian forces are attempting to push Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region, according to a Facebook post by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.

According to Syrskyi, the Russian troops have received orders from their command to push Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region and seize border areas of the Sumy region.

"The implementation of the aggressor’s plan is being thwarted by our units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which once again disrupted the enemy’s offensive in this direction with their active actions," Syrskyi wrote.

He noted that he is currently working in the Sumy direction to gain a detailed understanding of the situation in the brigades holding the line there. He is also there to assist commanders in organizing combat operations and to resolve any pressing issues.

What else did Syrskyi report

The Commander-in-Chief met with and listened to the commanders, key staff officers of the brigades, and chiefs of military branches. He made all necessary decisions on the ground regarding the provision of combat operations and the replenishment of logistics and ammunition supplies.

They also discussed the prospects for the development and further strengthening of the combat capabilities of the troops, as well as the implementation of modern technologies and the increase of the drone component across all types of brigades.

"Only by outpacing the enemy in the use of high-tech weaponry, increasing the quantity and quality of robotic platforms and remotely operated modules, and integrating artificial intelligence into armaments will we be able to effectively destroy a numerically superior enemy force," Syrskyi stated.

Russian offensive in northern Ukraine

At the beginning of April, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Russia had effectively launched a new offensive in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. Shortly before that, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian intelligence had detected signs of Russia preparing for a new offensive, with threats specifically targeting the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, Russia may intensify offensive operations in most directions by late spring or early summer, with potential initial actions focused on the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

More details on Russia’s potential new offensive are available in the RBC-Ukraine material.
