Ukrainian forces down 4 Russian drones in south
Ukrainian military in the south destroyed four Russian drones, according to a post by the Southern Defense Forces on Telegram.
"On the evening of January 1, 2024, in the Mykolaiv region, using air defense systems of the air command South, one UAV Shahed-136/131 was destroyed," the statement reads.
Additionally, it is noted that during the day in the Kherson region, Ukrainian defenders destroyed one reconnaissance UAV Merlin-VR and two strike UAVs Lancet.
Ukraine's shelling on New Year's Eve
During New Year's Eve, Russian forces employed a record number of strike drones, such as Shahed - 90 units. The attack was carried out in waves from four directions.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 87 drones were successfully shot down during the night.
However, as a result of the attack, there have been damages and casualties. Specifically, in Odesa, a teenager was killed, and in Lviv, the Roman Shukhevych Museum was completely burned down, along with a university where Stepan Bandera studied.
Additionally, Russian occupiers fired four guided C-300 missiles at the Kharkiv region.
