The Third Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has debunked a Russian fake about an alleged enemy breakthrough into the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region, the Corps reported.
"Units of the Corps repel around 40 enemy assaults per day on the approaches to Lyman and do not allow the enemy to enter the city," said the Corps commander, Brigadier General Andriy Biletskyi.
According to him, in particular, over the past month, the enemy has carried out a dozen infiltration attempts by small groups on the outskirts of the city. Each of these groups of Russian troops was either eliminated or taken prisoner.
Thus, one of the captured Russians "thanked" a Russian war correspondent for leaking their positions on Telegram. The enemy was quickly detected by Ukrainian fighters. Part of the group was destroyed on the spot, and he was lucky to be captured and survive.
Situation on the Lyman axis
In November, Russian forces intensified their offensive on the Lyman axis. Large infantry groups are attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses, infiltrate the city, and reach the railway station. Russian forces are also using armored vehicles.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed that the situation on the front remains difficult. According to him, the most intense fighting is taking place in the areas of seven cities, including Lyman.
The General Staff also reported that over the past day, on the Lyman axis, the enemy carried out 11 attacks, attempting to breach our defenses in the areas of Tverdokhlibove, Novoyehorivka, Torske, Novoselivka, Zarichne, and toward Cherneshchyna and Korovynyi Yar.
Ukrainian forces yesterday also denied information from the Russian Ministry of Defense about the alleged capture of two settlements near Lyman in the Donetsk region. These are the settlements of Stavky and Novoselivka.
