Drones struck one of Russia's key oil refineries, a facility that supplies millions of tons of fuel each year for the country's military equipment, according to Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko and eyewitness reports shared on social media.

Russia's largest oil refinery comes under attack

Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Omsk Oil Refinery, Russia's largest oil processing facility. The refinery processes more than 22 million tons of crude oil annually.

The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation kerosene, which are used, among other purposes, by the military of the aggressor state.

The governor of the Omsk region confirmed the drone attack but claimed only that the drones had been shot down.

"The Russian Defense Ministry's air defense forces shot down enemy UAVs over the Omsk region. The consequences of the attack are being assessed. Stay tuned for updates. Rely only on verified sources," the governor wrote.

The footage shows not drones being shot down, but a fire burning on the grounds of the oil refinery itself.

As previously reported, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), together with other units of the Defense Forces, carried out strikes today on oil refineries and military facilities in Russia and occupied Crimea.

The targets included the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery, a fuel terminal in Vysotsk, and the NOVATEK-Ust-Luga complex. In occupied Crimea, the strikes targeted the Hvardiiske air base and a Pantsir-S2 air defense system.

As previously reported, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces have disabled 37 energy facilities in Crimea and the Russian-occupied areas of the Donbas since the beginning of July, prompting the occupation authorities to acknowledge a complete blackout in several cities.

The latest target, the Simferopolska substation, became the 38th facility struck during the night of July 6.
