Key units at Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region of Russia were damaged as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
According to clarified information, damage to primary oil processing units ELOU-AVT-2 and ELOU-AVT-6 has been confirmed, as well as facilities for the production of petroleum bitumen, hydroprocessing units, and gas fractionation units.
It is noted that capacities of the enterprise are used to produce a wide range of petroleum products, including fuel to meet the needs of the armed forces of the aggressor state.
"Defense forces of Ukraine continue systematic measures to reduce the Russian military-economic potential and capabilities to supply its forces," the General Staff emphasized.
Strike on Kirishi oil refinery
On the night of Thursday, March 26, the Defense Forces struck the Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region of Russia.
Fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise — primary oil processing units and two tanks caught fire.
Kirishi oil refinery supplies petroleum products via pipelines to the ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk for further export.
Kirishi oil refinery is the second largest by capacity in the aggressor country and is among the top three largest oil refineries. The refinery has an installed processing capacity of about 20–21 million tons of oil per year. It accounts for more than 6% of total oil refining volume in Russia.
The capacities of the plant are used, among other things, for production of fuel used to meet needs of armed forces of Russia.
