Ukrainian defense minister proposes joint defense projects with Türkiye

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with his Turkish counterpart Yaşar Güler in Brussels. During the talks, he proposed creating a list of joint projects in the defense industry, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
"The Turkish minister reaffirmed support for Ukraine and respect for our territorial integrity. For us, this is an important signal of solidarity on the path to a just peace," Umerov said.
The head of Ukraine's Defense Ministry thanked his counterpart for Türkiye’s contribution to maritime security and the Black Sea region, its diplomatic efforts, participation in international coalitions supporting Ukraine, and cooperation in the field of demining. They also discussed prospects for developing industrial cooperation.
"I proposed creating a list of joint projects in the defense industry," Umerov added.
The Ukrainian minister also highlighted Türkiye's efforts to ensure security in the Black Sea, particularly its adherence to the provisions of the Montreux Convention.
"I'm grateful to Türkiye for its consistent support and willingness to deepen our partnership," he said.
New Ramstein initiative on weapons production
On June 4, during a meeting in the Ramstein format, a decision was made to launch a new initiative for the joint production of Ukrainian weapons in partner countries to meet Ukraine's defense needs.
"Partners confirmed that everything produced at these facilities will go to support the Ukrainian military for as long as the war continues. They are ready to fully fund these productions and even allocate additional financing. This initiative is a strategic breakthrough. Together, we will manufacture drones, missiles, ammunition, electronic warfare systems, and other types of weaponry," said Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
There are already concrete steps being taken by Ukraine's partners, including:
-
A Western European company has announced the production of modern anti-Shahed missiles in Ukraine.
-
The United Kingdom and Ukraine will jointly manufacture Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) and their corresponding launch systems.
-
Rheinmetall (Germany) is building state-of-the-art Lynx combat vehicles in Ukraine.
-
Ukrainian companies are already producing ammunition under license from Nammo (Norway–Finland).
-
SAAB (Sweden), Kongsberg (Norway), KNDS (France–Germany), FFG (Germany), and Raytheon (USA) are all expanding their presence in Ukraine.
