Ukrainian army receives new drones and ships - ISW
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has signed agreements with defense companies to produce new weapons and strike drones, aiming to expand the domestic defense industrial base, according to a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
On July 30, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced that the Ministry of Defense had signed two agreements with domestic defense industry enterprises worth nearly 5 billion hryvnias (approximately $121 million).
On August 1, the Ministry also announced a contract worth over 3.7 billion hryvnias (around $90 million) with local producers for supplying Ukrainian forces with ground strike drones.
Additionally, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) notes that Ukrainian military officials are continuing to streamline and simplify mobilization processes to improve the formation of new military units.
Recently, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces developed proposals to simplify mobilization and reduce risks for conscripted personnel. This includes allowing commanders to select and recruit servicemen directly for their brigades and enabling recruits to choose vacant positions within military units.
The report also mentions that Western partners continue to support Ukraine in building its defense capabilities.
On August 2, Defense Minister Umerov and Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska visited Istanbul to launch the Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi Ada-class corvette.
Umerov stated that Ukraine and Turkiye agreed to build the Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi and Hetman Ivan Mazepa Ada-class corvettes in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Navy is expected to receive the Vyhovskyi in early 2027.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian military personnel are already undergoing training for service on the Mazepa.
