Zelenskyy on shipbuilding in Türkiye: We will continue
Yesterday, Türkiye launched the second corvette for Ukraine. Kyiv plans to continue such cooperation in the future, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy said that today there was a report from Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. He talked about Ukraine's cooperation with Türkiye.
"Among other things, he discussed the construction of our corvettes for Ukraine: we will continue this collaboration," the President emphasized.
Agreement between Türkiye and Ukraine
Back in 2020, Ukraine ordered Ada corvette ships from Türkiye.
The first corvette, Hetman Ivan Mazepa, built in Türkiye, was launched in October 2022. At the end of the same year, construction of the Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky began.
Initially, the ships were planned to be equipped at the Ocean shipyard in Ukraine, but the plans changed after the full-scale invasion of Russia.
In March 2024, the Ukrainian Navy announced the training of Ukrainian crew to serve on the Mazepa. Also in May, the first corvette went on its first sea trials.
Yesterday, on August 1, a ceremony of launching the warship Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky took place in Istanbul, Türkiye.
It is noted that Ankara will hand over the corvette to Kyiv in the first quarter of 2027.
