Ukraine will continue striking Russian oil refineries unless the parties reach an energy truce. This position was expressed after the US allowed Russia to export diesel fuel, according to an informed source in the Ukrainian government.

According to the source, strikes on Russian oil refineries will continue until the parties reach an agreement to halt attacks on energy infrastructure.

"Ukraine will continue striking Russian oil refineries unless there is an energy ceasefire," the source said.

The day before, Trump announced an agreement with Putin under which Russia would supply diesel fuel to the US and global markets, while the US Treasury would issue Russia a temporary license. Moscow immediately announced that it was lifting restrictions on fuel exports ahead of schedule.

The deal Trump announced on October 9 provides for supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the US and other countries totaling up to 1.8 million tonnes over the coming months. As part of the deal, the US Treasury is issuing Moscow a temporary exemption from sanctions. Kyiv reacted strongly to the decision, with Zelenskyy calling it a weak move by strong partners.

Trump had previously raised the issue of Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries. Back in September, he argued that attacks on Russian oil refineries were driving up fuel prices and urged Kyiv to refrain from striking Russia’s energy infrastructure.
