Ukraine is ready to cooperate with Japan in the field of unmanned technologies, including the joint production of drones, states Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Sybiha noted that Ukraine has gained valuable experience during its war with the aggressor state, Russia, and therefore, cooperation between Kyiv and Tokyo could be mutually beneficial.

"Now we are the leaders in the world in producing drones...We are ready to share, with Japan, our experience, and to cooperate in producing, for example, drones," the minister stated.

What kind of drones are we talking about?

Referring to Japan's strict constitutional restrictions on the transfer of weapons, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha clarified that cooperation in the field of drones could cover a wide range, from agricultural applications to reconnaissance technologies.

Japan still adheres to its pacifist policy. Arms exports remain under strict control, a point previously emphasized by Defense Minister Minoru Kihara.

However, last year Japan eased its arms export rules - allowing it to sell fighter jets to other countries. Still, those jets cannot be transferred to nations engaged in active hostilities.

Earlier, we reported that Ukraine and Japan signed an agreement enabling Ukraine to receive a $3 billion loan, to be covered by profits from frozen Russian assets.

In January of this year, Japan imposed additional sanctions against Russia. The new list includes not only Russian companies and individuals but also entities from other countries.

Additionally, last year, Japan joined the coalition to return Ukrainian children who were deported by Russia - an initiative launched by Ukraine and Canada.
