The Japanese government has imposed additional sanctions against Russia. The list includes not only companies and citizens of Russia but also of other countries, according to Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy.

33 organizations and 12 individuals, including a North Korean citizen, were added to the asset freeze list.

Also, 53 organizations from countries including Russia, China, and Türkiye are subject to export bans and other measures. According to Vlasiuk, these are mostly manufacturers and suppliers of the military-industrial complex.

“Starting January 23, Japan will also ban the export of another 335 goods, including small motorcycles and components for special equipment such as cranes. In addition, we are conducting educational activities with manufacturers whose components are found in Russian missiles,” the presidential envoy added.

Japan's assistance to Ukraine

Japan supports Ukraine in the war unleashed by Russia. However, the country does not provide lethal aid.

The government of Japan supports Ukraine financially through international mechanisms and directly and provides humanitarian and demining support.

In addition, Japan joined the coalition to return Ukrainian children deported by Russia. The initiative was launched by Ukraine and Canada. More than 30 countries have joined the initiative.
