Ukraine urges Mongolia to arrest Putin during his visit
Mongolia must execute the international arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin during his upcoming visit, specifically by transferring him to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian Side hopes that the Government of Mongolia is aware of the fact that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. The International Criminal Court, the jurisdiction of which is recognized by Mongolia, has issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine says.
The Ministry states that the abduction of Ukrainian children is just one of the many crimes for which Putin and the rest of the military-political leadership of Russia should face justice. They are all guilty of aggressive warfare against Ukraine, atrocities against the Ukrainian people, murders, rapes, robberies, shelling of civilian infrastructure, and genocide.
"We call on the Mongolian authorities to execute the binding international arrest warrant and transfer Putin to the International Criminal Court in The Hague," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
Putin's visit to Mongolia
In March 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in Russia.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced that Putin plans to visit Mongolia on September 3. Bloomberg reports that Putin has received assurances from the country that he will not be arrested under the ICC warrant.
