Ukraine urges EU to target Russia's oil and shadow fleet in new sanctions push

The European Union is already working on its 19th sanctions package against Russia. Ukraine has submitted its proposals to Brussels, informs Sanctions Commissioner Vladyslav Vlasiuk.
"We continue working — Ukraine has already sent specific proposals for the next 19th EU sanctions package," he said.
According to Vlasiuk, Ukraine expects the upcoming 19th package to include sanctions targeting Russia’s oil infrastructure.
"The 18th package sanctioned a large refinery in India. That had an immediate effect. The 18th package also sanctioned a captain of the so-called shadow fleet, which also produced instant results," he said during a televised marathon.
The Commissioner added that Ukraine also seeks sanctions against captains of the shadow fleet, maritime terminals, port infrastructure, and possibly insurance companies.
"Another major area is the defense industry. We are proposing a range of new categories of goods and materials to expand the list of critical components," Vlasiuk stated.
EU sanctions against Russia
Recently, the EU adopted its 18th sanctions package against Russia. The list included 22 banks, four companies linked to the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and 26 entities connected to the Russian defense industry, among others.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, called the 18th sanctions package one of the strongest since the full-scale war began.
According to Estonia's Foreign Minister, Brussels has already started working on the next sanctions package.
On July 27, it became known that Ukraine synchronized its sanctions with the EU and also introduced new restrictions. These measures targeted Russia's critical resources.
