The Ministry of Defense and the Air Force of Ukraine have developed a roadmap to advance Ukraine's aviation capabilities. The document is based on NATO's Joint Air Power Strategy, informs Denys Shmyhal, Ukrainian Minister of Defense.

The minister explained that NATO's Joint Air Power Strategy is a strategic document outlining the principles and methods of using the Alliance's air forces for security and aggression deterrence.

"This strategy is central to NATO's defense approach. It forms the basis for training new Alliance members and partners. The roadmap is structured according to the key functions defined in NATO's strategy," Shmyhal said.

According to him, the roadmap was presented today to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Its goal is to strengthen Ukraine's ability to:

  • Employ aviation during combined operations and NATO-related activities;
  • Effectively strike the enemy amid ongoing aggression;
  • Prevent enemy advances and deter future threats.

"Thanks to this document, the Ukrainian Air Forces will gain the capacity to deter enemy aggression by applying air power according to NATO standards," the Minister of Defense added.

On Sunday, August 3, President Zelenskyy appointed Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko as Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He had been serving as acting Commander for nearly a year after Mykola Oleshchuk was dismissed.

Before leading the Air Force of Ukraine, Kryvonozhko commanded the Air Command Center. For effective leadership, he received the title Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star in 2023.
