Ukraine has reached an agreement with the IMF on the latest review of the EFF program, paving the way for a new tranche of $500 million, according to a statement from Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and the Telegram channel of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"Ukraine and the IMF have reached a staff-level agreement on the eighth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated.

He explained that the next tranche, amounting to approximately $500 million, will be available to Ukraine after the review is approved by the IMF Executive Board, which is expected to happen in the coming weeks.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, this will grant Ukraine access to around $500 million in funding, and they noted that the total disbursements under the program will reach $10.65 billion.

The NBU also stated that the total size of the program remains unchanged at $15.5 billion.

NBU emphasized that Ukraine’s performance under the program remains strong, with all quantitative performance criteria met as of the end of March this year.

Agreements have also been reached on policy and reform measures aimed at supporting macroeconomic stability.

"According to the IMF’s assessment, despite the challenges of war, our country’s economy remains resilient, and the government continues to implement the necessary changes and reforms," Shmyhal added.

As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, the International Monetary Fund mission began discussions with Ukrainian authorities on the eighth review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program on May 20.

The four-year IMF program with Ukraine, running from 2023 to 2027 and totaling $15.5 billion, is part of a broader international support package for Ukraine.

Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine could receive $2.7 billion from the IMF in 2025 alone, following four quarterly reviews.

Ukraine received a $400 million tranche in March. Notably, the amount was reduced by $500 million at Ukraine’s request, as Kyiv has sufficient funds for this year.

Additionally, the total amount of external financing expected in 2025 is projected to reach $55 billion, mostly under the ERA Loans program (funded by frozen Russian assets). However, part of these funds will only be spent in 2026.
