A new aid package from the European Union and the European Investment Bank provides more than 600 million euros for Ukraine. The funds will be directed toward critical infrastructure and energy efficiency, according to a joint statement by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank.
The bulk of the financing — more than €450 million — will be provided by the European Investment Bank thanks to an European Union guarantee. An additional approximately €150 million will be allocated in grants and technical assistance.
The funds will be directed toward rebuilding road and rail infrastructure, power grids, and improving the energy efficiency of housing and public facilities. Urban mobility and educational infrastructure will also receive support.
"Today's announcement reflects the strength of the EU's partnership with Ukraine," said Karl Nehammer. "We are scaling up our support to deliver concrete investments where they are needed most – from energy security to transport and housing."
The new package complements the €2 billion already allocated under the Ukraine Investment Framework, which is part of the EU’s broader €50 billion support mechanism.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said Ukraine is becoming one of the key destinations for investment in Europe.
"Cooperations between EU and Ukrainian companies also lay the foundation for more European sovereignty in critical technology sectors," she added.
The Ukrainian government also expects the new guarantees to help expand financing for critically important projects.
"We are grateful to our European partners for this new package of financial support and look forward to its swift implementation, which is essential for addressing urgent recovery needs," said Ukraine’s Economy, Environment and Agriculture Minister Oleksii Sobolev.
RBC-Ukraine previously reported that EU ambassadors on Wednesday, April 22, are expected to consider the final procedural decision needed to launch 90 billion euros in financing for Ukraine.
According to Politico, a condition for approving the €90 billion for Ukraine today, April 22, is the absence of written complaints or objections from member states.
