The European Union may approve the allocation of €90 billion to Ukraine today, April 22, provided that no written complaints or objections are received from member states, according to Politico.

According to sources cited by the media, the EU is ready to approve the loan if it does not receive written objections by midday today from countries that previously opposed the initiative, including Hungary and Slovakia.

Thus, Hungary, still led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, is expected to state its position on the approval of the EU loan to Ukraine at a summit scheduled for Friday, April 24.

The approval of the deal by EU ambassadors will follow a written procedure: any objections must be submitted in writing, and their absence will be considered consent.

€90 billion for Ukraine

At the end of 2025, EU leaders agreed on a decision to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan. However, the process was blocked by Hungary. Following damage to Russia's Druzhba oil pipeline, Budapest began obstructing the funding.

At the time, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that he would not support the loan unless Ukraine restored the oil supply route.

After winning the parliamentary elections in Hungary, opposition leader Péter Magyar said the new government could lift its veto on EU funding for Ukraine if oil deliveries via Druzhba were restored.

According to RBC-Ukraine, EU ambassadors are also expected to consider on Wednesday, April 22, the final procedural step required to launch the €90 billion funding for Ukraine.
