Ukraine to receive $2.3 billion from UK to bolster air defense – Prime Minister

Ukraine will receive nearly £1.7 billion ($2.3 billion) from the UK to strengthen its air defense systems, according to the Telegram channel of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
According to Shmyhal, the government has already approved the corresponding decision.
He noted that the funds will be used for:
-
Rapid Ranger surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs)
-
Lightweight multirole Martlet missiles
The Prime Minister added that the procurement of these weapons will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and its ability to stop the enemy.
"This month, the United Kingdom also announced a record drone supply package. We're talking about £350 million ($474.1 million), which will allow Ukraine to receive 100,000 drones this year," Shmyhal stated.
UK assistance to Ukraine
The United Kingdom is one of Ukraine’s key allies in the war against Russian aggression. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the UK has provided significant military support to Ukraine, including Challenger 2 tanks, air defense systems, long-range Storm Shadow missiles, drones, ammunition, and training for Ukrainian troops.
In addition to weapons, the UK has actively supported Ukraine at the diplomatic level, increased sanctions pressure on Russia, and provided financial assistance.
On June 4, ahead of the Ramstein meeting, the UK announced a record aid package for Ukraine. According to Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, the support will include:
-
100,000 drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) by the end of 2025
-
140,000 artillery shells and more.
