Ukraine strikes Russian oil refineries more than 1,300 kilometers away

Ukrainian drones struck two oil refineries in Yaroslavl and Bashkortostan, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Strikes in the Black Sea
In addition to ground targets, Ukraine's Defense Forces also responded to Russian aggression at sea.
Two military patrol boats and vessels from Russia's shadow fleet, which Russia uses to circumvent sanctions, were struck.
"I thank all the warriors of the Defense Forces who are systematically expanding our long-range capabilities and thereby increasing the chances for diplomacy. Russia must choose peace," the president wrote.
General Staff reveals details of the refinery strikes
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided additional details about the strikes on Russian oil refineries. The attacks took place on August 5 and during the night of August 6.
The strike on the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl was carried out during the night of August 6. Hits and a fire were recorded at the facility, with the military confirming three fire hotspots. The extent of the damage is being clarified.
The strike on the Bashneft-Novoil oil refinery in Ufa was carried out on August 5. According to preliminary information, a combined processing unit and the L-35-11/1000 catalytic reforming unit were hit.
A fire also broke out at the facility.
Drone control relay stations destroyed
In addition to the oil refineries, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck two ground relay stations that Russian forces used to control Geran and Gerbera attack drones.
One relay station was destroyed near Zaliznyi Port in the Kherson region.
The second was destroyed near Olenivka in occupied Crimea.
These facilities provided stable communications for controlling the drones that Russia uses to attack Ukrainian territory.
On the morning of August 6, drones attacked Yaroslavl, where a fire broke out at an oil refinery.
The regional governor had reported a drone threat overnight, and traffic toward Moscow was temporarily suspended.
Meanwhile, analysts say that Russia's economy has been steadily slowing for a second consecutive year due to sanctions and strikes on the oil sector.
