Drones strike Russia's Yaroslavl as more head toward Moscow, refinery burns

On the morning of Thursday, August 6, the Russian city of Yaroslavl came under a drone attack. The strikes caused a fire at a local oil refinery, according to Russian Telegram channels and OSINT sources.
The region's governor, Mikhail Yevraev, wrote on his Telegram channel that a drone threat was declared in the Yaroslavl region at 2:37 a.m.
Ten minutes later, the region was already under attack, prompting authorities to block traffic on the road leading out of Yaroslavl toward Moscow for safety reasons.
Shortly after 4 a.m., footage of a fire in Yaroslavl began appearing on OSINT public channels, and subscribers to these channels reported that an oil refinery had been attacked. Around 7 a.m., footage emerged online showing several plumes of smoke at once.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
The Moscow region is also under drone attack. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin posted on Telegram overnight and around 6 a.m. that air defense forces had reportedly shot down a total of six drones.
What else important to know
In late June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a 40-day operation to force Russia to make peace. Recently, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on the objectives that had been achieved. According to the report, five oil refineries, fighter jets, an aircraft factory, and other targets were attacked.
According to Reuters, Russia increased its fuel imports from Belarus to a record high in July. This was due to Ukraine’s strikes on oil refineries.
