Ukraine has started negotiations on a security cooperation agreement with Sweden, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

It is noted that the talks began on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and in continuation of his recent telephone conversation with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

The Ukrainian negotiating delegation is headed by the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, but today's round of talks was conducted by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Ihor Zhovkva.

“We are grateful to Sweden for its significant support to Ukraine, including military support, in countering full-scale Russian aggression. It is important that today we are negotiating with Sweden as a new NATO member,” Zhovkva emphasized.

He added that Ukraine looked forward to further strengthening bilateral security cooperation with Sweden in all strategic areas, which will be reflected in a bilateral agreement. The parties discussed in detail the provisions of the draft document and agreed on further steps to ensure its quick finalization and subsequent signing.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

A number of Western countries have already signed an agreement with Ukraine on security guarantees, with the UK being the first among them.

An agreement with the United States is being prepared. Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would sign a security guarantees agreement with Slovenia as soon as possible.
