Zelenskyy to meet Kellogg to discuss possible summit with Putin

At a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that this week, the Ukrainian side will hold a series of meetings with American partners to develop a basic plan of security guarantees.
According to Zelenskyy, today he will meet with the US President’s Special Envoy Keith Kellogg.
The negotiations concern preparations for a possible future meeting with the Russian side.
“And today there will be a meeting with Kellogg as a continuation of this subject, in the context of preparations for a future meeting with the Russian side. At the end of the week, there will be a meeting of the Ukrainian team and the American team,” Zelenskyy said.
He specified that the talks will involve contacts with US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance.
Earlier, the head of the President’s Office had a talk with Rubio and other American partners.
Communication between the Ukrainian military leadership and the US side is also expected. On Wednesday, a meeting at the level of national security advisors is planned.
“After that, I would like to understand from the American side whether Russia is ready for the configuration proposed by America and supported by Ukraine in the presence of European leaders — a bilateral, and then a trilateral meeting,” the president added.
Trilateral meeting of Zelenskyy, Trump, and Putin
After a three-hour meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, international attention shifted to Washington, where on August 18, the US President held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
European leaders later joined the consultations. The parties discussed security guarantees for Ukraine and the broader agenda of future negotiations.
Following the discussions, Washington proposed holding a trilateral meeting of the US, Ukraine, and Russia as early as August 22. Zelenskyy said he was ready to participate in any configuration of the format if the summit takes place.
However, Moscow has not publicly confirmed its participation, instead putting forward its own conditions, which complicates the coordination of the date and location. European diplomats are working to find an optimal venue for a possible summit, taking into account political risks and security issues.
