Ukraine may begin importing gas from Mozambique. The leaders of the two countries discussed such cooperation, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.

According to the head of the Ukrainian state, he held talks with Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo.

"Ukraine is interested in additional energy supplies. Mozambique is interested in our Ukrainian expertise and technologies to strengthen internal security and protect people from terror," Zelenskyy said.

The leaders also discussed potential cooperation in the fields of digitalization and food security.

According to the President of Ukraine, the teams of the two countries will work together.

Ukraine to increase gas production

Earlier, Reuters reported that Naftogaz (Ukraine's largest oil and gas company) had begun negotiations with the Romanian company OMV Petrom on the joint development of a gas field on the Black Sea shelf.

According to the outlet, the site was discovered by the Ukrainian side even before the full-scale invasion. While exact reserves are not disclosed, industry sources told journalists that it is one of the most promising fields in the Black Sea region.

Experts told the outlet that the successful development of new offshore fields would help significantly reduce Europe’s energy dependence on Russian gas.

Ukraine has been continuing to accumulate gas reserves in underground storage facilities for the second week in a row.

This accumulation started a month earlier than last year.
