Ukraine's successful counterattack foils Russian plans near Sloviansk — ISW

On August 1 and 2, Russians continued their offensive operations in the Sloviansk sector. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to halt the Russian troops in time, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
According to data from American analysts, the Russian army once again failed to achieve confirmed successes on this section of the front. The fact is that Ukrainian soldiers carried out successful counterattacks.
One Russian military blogger stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had launched a counterattack near Rai-Oleksandrivka (east of Sloviansk—ed.).
The ISW team emphasizes that Russian occupiers are increasingly using guided aerial bombs. In this way, they are attempting to prepare the battlefield for future offensive operations against Sloviansk.
Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, confirmed that on the morning of August 2, Russia had struck the city with a FAB-250 guided aerial bomb.
"Russian forces continued offensive operations in the Kostiantynivka tactical area on August 1 and 2 but did not make confirmed advances," US analysts note.
Despite this, one Russian military blogger claimed that the Russian army had advanced south and southeast of Vasiutynske, as well as north of Pershomarivka. However, there is no evidence to support these claims.
It is important to understand that Russia continues to rely on guided aerial bomb strikes to destroy buildings and create conditions for sabotage and assault groups to infiltrate, intending to subsequently advance within Kostiantynivka.
"An officer of a Ukrainian special forces unit reported that Russian forces continue infiltration missions within Kostiantynivka and often hide in basements or ruined buildings to wait for reinforcements," the ISW states.
