Shakhtar Donetsk began their European season in dominant fashion, crushing Finnish club Ilves 6-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League qualifying round.
On Thursday, July 10, Shakhtar faced Ilves in the first qualifying round of the Europa League. The match was considered a home game for the Ukrainian side but took place at the "Stožice" stadium in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
This match marked the official debut of Shakhtar's new head coach, Arda Turan. His squad took control from the very first minutes and closed the game with a decisive 6-0 victory.

25th minute – 1:0, Alisson Santana
The Brazilian midfielder opened the score after pressing high, stealing the ball from a defender and calmly finishing into the bottom corner.
44th minute – 2:0, Kauan Elias
Elias doubled the lead with a powerful header from a corner kick, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
48th minute – 3:0, Alisson Santana
Just after halftime, Alisson scored his second, again exploiting Ilves' mistakes under pressure and finishing with a sharp strike into the near corner.
74th minute – 4:0, Kevin Lopes de Macedo
Kevin netted the rebound after the goalkeeper failed to stop Alisson's attempt, with Ilves defenders caught out of position.
88th minute – 5:0, Pedrinho
After intercepting the ball near midfield, Pedrinho surged forward and blasted it past the keeper.
89th minute – 6:0, Nevertton Martins da Silva
Nevertton completed the rout with a clinical shot into the bottom corner following a solo run.
What's Next?
The return leg between Ilves and Shakhtar is set for July 17 in Tampere, Finland.
The winner will face Beşiktaş (Turkey) in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.
The loser will drop to the Europa Conference League and play against AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands).
Shakhtar finished third in last season's Ukrainian Premier League—its worst performance since 1996. Meanwhile, Dynamo Kyiv claimed the national title, securing its 17th championship in club history.
