Ukraine's Security Service assists in uncovering Medvedchuk's EU influence network: Source
Ahead of the European Parliament elections, Czech counter-intelligence exposed a pro-Russian influence network in Prague targeting MEPs. The network was linked to former people's deputy of Ukraine and traitor Viktor Medvedchuk, reports the Voice of America.
According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the network was exposed with the help of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The pro-Russian network paid politicians to praise Russia and its dictator in European media outlets. Additionally, lawmakers were required to publish anti-Ukrainian and anti-European content on the Voice of Europe website to help elect as many pro-Russian politicians to the European Parliament as possible.
It is noted that the Voice of Europe website was launched by Medvedchuk and former Chief Producer of 112 Ukraine channel, Artem Marchevsky.
Currently, European lawmakers are demanding a thorough investigation into Russian influence and punishment for "colleagues" who worked for Russian money.
Background
Recently, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo stated that the Russian Federation was bribing Members of the European Parliament to spread propaganda. He mentioned that this week, close cooperation between Belgian and Czech intelligence services had been established to dismantle the Russian propaganda network.
On March 27, the Czech Republic imposed sanctions against Medvedchuk. The reason was his involvement with the Voice of Europe company.
In particular, on March 28, Polish intelligence services conducted a series of raids in the case of a Russian spy network, which also aimed to discredit Ukraine.
