Ukraine's representative to UN: North Korean forces to join war against Ukraine in November
North Korean troops are expected to begin direct involvement in combat operations against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in November, according to Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's representative to the UN.
“It is also expected that in November 2024, DPRK military personnel will begin directly participating in combat operations against Ukraine’s Defense Forces… The DPRK units will likely operate in the area of responsibility of the 11th Separate Air Assault Brigade. According to the information at our disposal, an operational group of 40 DPRK servicemen has been conducting reconnaissance in the area of responsibility of this brigade since October 20," said Kyslytsya.
He emphasized that Russia is receiving assistance in its aggressive war from a nation under sanctions. Therefore, North Korea’s decision to deploy its military in the conflict constitutes a violation of international law. Moreover, the training of North Korean troops on Russian territory breaches United Nations resolutions, Kyslytsya added.
As a reminder, the UN Security Council met to discuss the deployment of North Korean troops to the frontline in Ukraine.
According to Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, North Korean forces are expected to begin combat against Ukraine in November.
Previously, it was reported that 1,500 North Korean special forces soldiers were stationed in Vladivostok, Russia.
Today, the Financial Times reported that 3,000 North Korean troops have already arrived in Russia’s Kursk region, roughly 50 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The United States has stated that North Korea’s possible involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine could prompt Western partners to explore new avenues of support for Kyiv.
