Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, held a meeting with the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine, Ma Shengkun. Earlier, the ambassador had presented his credentials to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

During the meeting, they discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and China, particularly in the context of supporting peace and stability in the region.

Yermak emphasized China's important role in achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

The possibility of organizing a bilateral dialogue at the highest level was also on the agenda.

Yesterday, December 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the start of the new Chinese ambassador's work in Ukraine.

Ukraine-China relations

Relations between Ukraine and China remain generally positive but are not without challenges, particularly in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

China officially supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as confirmed by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs statements. However, Beijing refrains from directly condemning Russia's actions or calling them an invasion, instead urging both sides to engage in peace negotiations.

China has significantly strengthened its economic ties with Russia despite its declared neutrality. Notably, the supply of Chinese dual-use goods to Russia has increased, supporting Russia's military-industrial complex.

Furthermore, China has become the largest importer of Russian oil, helping Moscow offset losses from Western sanctions.

Earlier, the Pentagon reported that China has significantly expanded its nuclear arsenal and plans to continue doing so.
