Ukraine's Parliament – the Verkhovna Rada – will consider a draft law to ratify the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. The initiative has already been submitted to the legislature, according to Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament.

"A draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine titled 'On the ratification of the agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine,'"Stefanchuk emphasized.

He explained that ratification is a mandatory step for the agreement on establishing the Special Tribunal to enter into force.

According to the Chairman, the parliament will consider the initiative at the next plenary session.

Stefanchuk emphasized that establishing the Special Tribunal will be a crucial step toward holding the Russian leadership accountable.

Agreement on the establishment of the special tribunal

On June 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset signed an agreement to establish a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian head of state explained, ratifying the agreement quickly is essential to begin the process of setting up the Tribunal.

That's why, on June 30, President Zelenskyy signed the necessary documents to initiate ratification.
