The operation to destroy a Russian Mi-8 helicopter with a naval drone is historic, says Kirill Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

According to him, Magura V5 drones have attacked Russian air forces several times before. However, then the Russian equipment still reached the coastline, although it was shot down.

“Today was the first time a helicopter was shot down, it fell into the water. That is, the fact of the destruction of an air target over the Black Sea has been recorded. The second one, by the way, was also shot down. It managed to reach the airfield and make an emergency landing,” Budanov said.

Background

This morning it became known that Ukrainian soldiers of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine's Group 13 special forces destroyed an air target for the first time in the world using a Magura V5 maritime strike drone. It was the elimination of a Russian Mi-8 helicopter.

Ukrainian maritime drones

Ukrainian maritime drones have become an important element of modern military technology, demonstrating their effectiveness in the war against Russia.

Magura V5 is a well-known model capable of destroying air targets. The drones are equipped with cameras, GPS navigation, and artificial intelligence, and some models operate at a distance of over 800 km.

The targets of drones are warships, ports, air defense systems, and strategic facilities in the occupied territories. They also ensure the safety of sea corridors and civilian shipping.

In May this year, Magura V5 drones caused $500 million in damage to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
