Despite imposing of sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) by the United States, Ukraine will continue its cooperation with The Hague on prosecuting Russian criminals, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Heorhii Tykhyi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Commenting on the US sanctions against the ICC, Tykhyi stated that the ICC will likely continue fulfilling its duties in prosecuting Russian criminals. Kyiv, for its part, will keep cooperating with The Hague to ensure progress in these cases.

"I believe that the US decision is not related to the Ukrainian context. And we hope that it will not impact the court's ability to achieve justice for the victims of Russian aggression. We consider the ICC to be an important tool in achieving these goals," Tykhyi added.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also emphasized the importance of issuing more arrest warrants by the ICC in cases against Russian criminals.

"That means there is still a lot of work ahead, and we are confident that this collaboration with the ICC will continue," a Ukrainian politician noted.

Sanctions against ICC

On February 6, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the ICC over its investigation against Israel. Before his inauguration, the court issued an arrest warrant for for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In response, the ICC has responded to the imposition of sanctions by the United States of America and vowed to continue to deliver justice.
