The International Criminal Court (ICC) has responded to the imposition of sanctions by the United States of America and vowed to continue to deliver justice, according to The Guardian.

“The ICC condemns the issuance by the US of an executive order seeking to impose sanctions on its officials and harm its independent and impartial judicial work. The court stands firmly by its personnel and pledges to continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world,” the ICC said.

Sanctions against the ICC include:

  • freezing of assets;
  • a ban on entry to the United States for ICC officials and staff, as well as their family members.

The names of the individuals against whom the United States imposed sanctions were not made public, however, previous restrictions under President Donald Trump were imposed on the ICC prosecutor.

“We call on our 125 states parties, civil society and all nations of the world to stand united for justice and fundamental human rights,” the ICC added.

Sanctions against ICC

Yesterday, February 6, US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing sanctions on the ICC over the investigation against Israel. The decree accused The Hague of setting a dangerous precedent.

Before Trump's second presidential term, the court issued an arrest warrant for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after Hamas attacked Israel.
