Ukraine's Foreign Minister slams Russia's ceasefire statement

Ukraine has not received any official proposals from Russia regarding a ceasefire for May 9. Moscow’s statements are another attempt to please the United States, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a press briefing.
The minister commented on Russia’s statement about a May 9 ceasefire, calling it another manipulation.
"This is yet another attempt by the Russians to please the Americans, to show some kind of constructive engagement. The President of Ukraine has clearly stated that, as of now, the Ukrainian side has received no proposals from them," he said.
Sybiha noted that Ukraine remains committed to peace efforts and has repeatedly expressed readiness for an unconditional ceasefire. He added that the focus should be on how to end the full-scale war and achieve a lasting peace.
"All these so-called ceasefires that are later violated by the very side that initiates them — Russia — are an attempt at a heavy-handed diplomatic maneuver. Secondly, it is a PR stunt aimed at a domestic audience, with these propaganda parades," the Foreign Minister said.
Ceasefire for May 9
The issue of a possible ceasefire by May 9 has recently become one of the main topics in the information space.
Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation explained that the Russian initiative is not aimed at achieving real peace, but rather reflects the Kremlin’s inability to guarantee security even in Moscow.
The Kremlin has said that the final decision on a ceasefire must be made personally by the Russian leader, but no clear dates or conditions have been announced so far.
Ukraine, for its part, plans to clarify the details of this proposal with the US President’s team. At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Kyiv is ready for peace but will not accept tactical manipulation from the enemy.
