Holding the aggressor accountable for the war crimes it has committed is a necessary condition for a just peace in Russia’s war against Ukraine, states Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
According to him, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, at least 15 people were killed as a result of a targeted Russian strike on a bus carrying mine workers. There were no military targets on board - only ordinary people returning home to their families after work.
“This is a true horror. Russia once again proves its status as a terrorist state. The Russian killers responsible for this and other crimes must be brought to justice. Accountability is a necessary condition for a just peace,” the foreign minister emphasized.
What preceded the attack
On Sunday, February 1, Russian forces struck a company bus carrying miners in the Dnipropetrovsk region using a combat drone. The attack killed 16 people, and an equal number were injured.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Russian strike on the bus in the Dnipro region is a deliberate crime, once again showing that Russia bears responsibility for the escalation.
DTEK, the company involved, emphasized that the details of the tragedy are still being clarified, but it can be stated with certainty that this was an unprovoked terrorist strike on a purely civilian target, for which there is no justification.
“This attack marked the largest single loss for DTEK since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion and one of the darkest days in the company’s history,” the company added.
