Germany and Ukraine will continue to expand cooperation in the defense sector. This includes joint weapons production, sanctions against Russia, and the use of its frozen assets, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, as quoted by an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.
Joint drone production
According to Sybiha, Germany became the first country with which Ukraine launched joint drone production.
This includes the Lynza strike drone and the Termit ground drone. Both developments were presented at an exhibition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Sybiha stressed that these are only some of the weapons the two countries can produce together.
"And I will repeat once again, I am confident that this cooperation will continue to scale up," he stressed.
Sanctions against Russia and Russian assets
Another topic of the talks was a package of special anti-ballistic sanctions. Its goal is to limit Russia's ability to produce ballistic missiles as much as possible.
Sybiha said the sides discussed specific elements and steps to implement such restrictions during the meeting.
The ministers also discussed frozen Russian assets. Ukraine is counting on the support of its European partners to make progress on this issue and legally unblock the use of more than 200 billion euros in Russian funds.
Germany's support
Sybiha also highlighted Germany's role in strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
"Germany is a leader in strengthening Ukraine's air defense. Every day and every night, the systems you have provided save Ukrainian lives," the Ukrainian foreign minister stressed.
He thanked Berlin for the Patriot, IRIS-T, Gepard and other systems provided to Ukraine that help protect Ukrainians from Russian attacks.
Ahead of Ukraine's Independence Day, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv. He said Berlin would continue to support Ukraine and help it prepare for the coming winter.
Wadephul also stressed the need to maintain European unity and continue supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia.
