Ukraine’s EU membership possible by 2030, Lithuanian FM says

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is entirely achievable. The country may join the bloc by 1 January 2030, said Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
Budrys emphasized that the target date mentioned by the Lithuanian President was not just an idea but a realistic goal. He expressed confidence that Ukraine could become an EU member by the beginning of 2030.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Ukraine still had a significant amount of work to complete to reach this milestone.
Ukraine’s EU accession
On June 25 last year, Ukraine officially began negotiations to join the European Union, following a decision by EU leaders at the end of 2023.
Recently, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called for accelerating Ukraine’s accession, stating that the country should become a full EU member by 2030.
Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested that if Ukraine maintains its current pace, it could join even sooner.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha recently noted that Ukraine has achieved full alignment with the EU’s foreign and defense policies, calling it a historic milestone.
