Ukraine's EU accession: Northern European and Baltic countries to gather experts for assistance
Countries of Northern Europe and the Baltics have agreed on a new initiative that will aid Ukraine's Euro-integration. This was announced by the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström, informs The Guardian.
According to him, eight countries from Northern Europe and the Baltics will assemble a group of experts to assist Ukraine's efforts towards European Union accession.
He specified that such an initiative will facilitate Ukraine's path towards joining the bloc.
Additionally, the Swedish Foreign Minister noted that his country supports an increased role for NATO in providing assistance to Ukraine in security matters and coordinating military support and equipment supplies.
Ukraine's accession to the European Union
In December of last year, during the European Council summit, leaders of EU countries endorsed the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine. The only one who wanted to oppose was Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, but he did not participate in the vote.
The negotiations have not yet effectively begun. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects them to commence in June. According to him, this is a matter of principle.
The exact timeline for our country's accession to the EU is currently unknown. EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, suggests that it may occur by 2030.
